How Can We Know and Do God's Will?

 by Barbara Latta

Sometimes we as believers struggle with wondering if we are following God’s will for our lives.

What if you discovered a resource that contained encouragement, Scriptural direction, and connection with other Christians that was offered at no cost to you?

Lighthouse Bible Studies publishes a digital magazine, Refresh, three times per year. The theme for the Spring issue is "Knowing and Doing God’s Will." Twenty-four authors share articles that help us follow God in every aspect of our lives and is offered in two parts.

It’s free to sign up and receive this wonderful publication by email. Subscribe here

Refresh Part 1

Refresh Part 2

Here are some examples and quotes from the Spring issue:

Pam Antoun's article:  Beyond the "Nudge": Six Life Changing Lessons From Answering God’s Call

One of these lessons from Luke 11:27-28  is to resist the comparison trap.

As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (NIV)

Pam shares, "Mary, mother of Jesus, was a righteous woman favored by God. But she was also an ordinary, sinful human being, just like us, who needed Jesus as her Savior. We should not compare ourselves to others but put into practice what we hear from God. No one is less important than the other in their response to God’s call."

My article: Renew Your Mind and Transform Your Life

I offer three points from Romans 12:1-2 NKJV that show us how to follow the Lord.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

These concepts show us how to become a living sacrifice, avoid worldly thinking, and discover God’s will for daily living.

"Romans 12:1–2 helped show me that finding the Father’s direction is not merely discovering a career choice; it is reflecting Christlike character in my actions.

Once we conform to His way of thinking, we can discern what He wants us to do in every facet of our existence: friendships, career, marriage, raising children, where to live, and more. Even though becoming a living sacrifice may not always be easy, this way of life is a benefit, not a liability. The only things we give up when we are on heaven’s altar are things that can hurt us. Holy living is healthy living. A spiritually healthy person can also help those who are hurting or faltering in their relationship with the Lord."

Laura Lee Leathers article:  Seeking God's Will Through the Spiritual Discipline of Fasting.

Laura shares six reasons to fast. Among these are repentance, guidance, and a deeper relationship with God. One Scripture Laura used was John 15:5 NKJV.

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Laura says, "For me, this time of fasting centered on drawing closer to Him, growing in righteousness, and knowing His will—aligning my will with His. He drew me close, allowing me to experience His grace and presence in a mighty way. Biblical fasting is a necessary discipline for pursuing a Christlike life."

Following God's will doesn't have to be difficult. He has given us His Word to guide us in all our decisions.
