God's Roadmap

Now may the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father God, who loved us and in his wonderful grace gave us eternal comfort and a beautiful hope that cannot fail, encourage your hearts and inspire you with strength to always do and speak what is good and beautiful in his eyes (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 TPT).

Is the Coronavirus God's Judgment?

by Barbara Latta

The world is in chaos attempting to find a cure for Coronavirus. Because God sent plagues against nations in certain situations during Old Testament times, some are proclaiming this is a judgment from God against a sinful world.

But we should look at God’s judgment in the light of the whole Bible and not just isolated incidents. In the Old Testament, God had no other way to judge the sin of people who wouldn’t listen to Him because Jesus had not yet come to redeem the world from sin. And in the judgments that were poured out on Egypt, Israel was protected. When the sinful world was judged with a flood, God protected the righteous family in an ark. God removed Lot from Sodom and Gomorrah before pouring down fire and brimstone.

And in several instances, God used foreign nations to judge the nation of Israel when they strayed from Him. But when Jesus died on the cross, the judgment and wrath of God was poured out upon His own Son so that those who believe in Him would not suffer God’s wrath.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him (Romans 5:8-9 NKJV).

If this virus, terrorist attacks and weather disasters were judgments from God there would be no remedy or recovery from them. No one would get well; no research could find a vaccine and no disinfectant would prevent it. We live in a fallen world on an earth that was cursed when mankind fell into sin (Genesis 3:17-19). Bad things happen. But with all that happens, God provides cures, remedies, knowledge, and wisdom for man to use as intervention.

Yes, God is sovereign. There is no one that can supersede His power. But He will not go against His own Word. And He gave the dominion of the earth to man and man gave that dominion to Satan (Genesis 1:28). Jesus destroyed Satan’s dominion when He was resurrected (Revelation 1:18), and Jesus then restored authority to man (Matthews 28:18-19).

If we will use it.

The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men (Psalm 115:16).

There will come a time when judgment from God will prevail upon this earth during the Tribulation period. (1 Thessalonians 2:1-12). And this virus epidemic and other calamities that have fallen upon mankind are nothing compared to that terrible time that will sweep the planet.

For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9).

This is my interpretation about these scriptures. Please feel free to join the conversation and share your thoughts.

  2. Well said Ms. Barbara. I agree; this is not a judgment, but it is a wake up call. I consider this and the many other tragic events that seem to be coming wit more frequency and intensity as "birthing pains", proclaiming the nearness of Christ's return. Let us do everything possible to proclaim the Gospel and reach as many folks as we can while we have the opportunity.
