Fewer Americans than ever before are trusting scripture as gospel. |
“The mounting evidence against the Bible means fewer
Americans than ever before are trusting scripture as gospel. Only 35 percent of
Americans read the holy book at least once a week, while 45 percent seldom or
never do, a Pew Research Center report in April found. About 36 percent of
Christians said the Bible should not be taken literally, while 40 percent say
it is the word of God. In all, only 24 percent of Americans said the holy book
was ‘the actual word of God, and is to be taken literally, word for word,’ a
Gallup poll conducted in May concluded.”
The more the Bible is disregarded, the more civilization
crumbles. One only has to look at the last 60 years to see the disintegration
of society in our country since prayer and Bible reading were taken out of
school and government assemblies. When the Word of God is slated as a “book of
fables” and disregarded as truth and the ultimate authority on life, there is
no accountability. Human selfishness prevails as individual rights supercede
the authority of the Supreme Ruler of the universe.
The results of the Gallup poll are sad, but the blame can be
laid at the feet of the Christian community for turning a blind eye to decades of demon-inspired ideas under the premise of Christians not becoming involved in politics. The Johnson Amendment scared pastors into silence. And now the majority of Americans don't honor the Bible as the Word of God.
We are left today with the success of ungodly people
removing God from our society, but that doesn’t mean we have to let that
success continue. As Christians, we can continue to stand our ground and defend
the Word of God.
Jesus told His disciples, If the world hates you, you know
that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would
love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the
world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, A
servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will also
persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these
things they will do to you for My names’ sake, because they do not know Him who
sent Me (John 15:18-21 NKJV).
Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. |
I heard someone say this week that if we want the power of
the book of Acts, we also have to accept the persecution of the book of Acts.
God does not want us to fear. He has given us power and
authority over the enemy (Ephesians 6: 10-16) The important thing to remember
is that Jesus left these words with His followers:
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have
peace. In the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer, I have
overcome the world (John 16:33).
As the world gets darker and darker, His light will shine
brighter and brighter. Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more (Romans
5:20).
