God's Roadmap

Now may the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father God, who loved us and in his wonderful grace gave us eternal comfort and a beautiful hope that cannot fail, encourage your hearts and inspire you with strength to always do and speak what is good and beautiful in his eyes (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 TPT).

3 Keys to Staying Positive When Negativity Surrounds You

by Barbara Latta

Shootings, natural disasters and political criticisms from each side bombard the airwaves
To survive meltdowns we must re-focus.
each time we click the power button on any device. Our world is falling apart, but that doesn’t mean we need to follow and disintegrate. But how can we stay positive in a negative world and combat fear when tragedies abound?

Jesus told us, These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world (John 16:33 NKJV). For us to survive the meltdowns happening every day we must find ways to re-focus our attention on what is truly important.

We live in a physical world and we have physical needs and physical attacks. But our reality is in the spirit world because that is who we really are. Worldly and material things will someday pass away, so when we focus mainly on what is happening to us in the physical realm we are neglecting the most important aspect of our being.

Here are 3 keys to staying positive when negativity surrounds you:

  1. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Don’t absorb the media reports as truth about your life. “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). We can get

headlines and find out enough about what is going on in the world without having the reports blaring into our ears all day long. Grab what you need to know and then turn it off.
  2. Play God’s news more than the world’s news. The Bible tells us when we have done all to stand and keep standing. “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (Ephesians 6:14). Playing podcasts, webinars and reading the Word will enrich our mind and downplay the influence of anything negative we hear.
  3. Keep fear away and put faith in control. Fear is not the truth. Faith is the truth and the rock of our salvation. When fear arises, take control. Find verses to stand on and say them out loud to combat any anxiety or worry. Philippians 4:6-7 says, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

This verse has been my go-to rock when worry and anxiety attack my mind.

While the mind will tell us, it is not possible to live positive in a negative world, Jesus says otherwise. The key is in what we place priority on. Do we believe God or the world?
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33).

Putting God first will bring everything else in line.
