A recent TED
talk given by Miriam Heine in Germany has introduced the concept that
pedophiles are born that way and we should all find a way to accept them.
Pedophilia.. is this the next sin accepted as normal? |
I have often
wondered when something like this would invade society after government
policies forced acceptance of homosexuality as a “norm” and required shared
restrooms in public places and legalized marriage of people of the same sex.
When the gate
is opened it leaves no boundary that would stop other sinful behavior from being
accepted by society.
In her talk,
Ms. Heine states that “pedophilia is not an irrelevant phenomenon we can
ignore.” She is right, but her solution is wrong. Her solution is to help them
learn to control their urges so they won’t become offenders.
But behavior
can only change when the sin nature is changed. Behavior modification cannot
take away sin. And to accept Jesus as the Lord, a person must recognize they
are a sinner. Therein lies the difference between what God says and what the
world says. Accepting sin as normal is the first step to sliding into apostasy.
No, we can’t
ignore pedophilia, but we need to prosecute those who prey on children and put
safeguards around anyplace a pedophile can be in contact with them. In her
opinion, pedophiles cannot change their orientation. Is the next step no prosecution when a child
is molested because the offender couldn’t help it?
Old Testament
Israel was influenced by the heathen nations surrounding them. They allowed worship
of false gods to infiltrate their beliefs until they had become like those who
did not know God. Israel forgot God and drifted into sin.
The danger for
us is the same. If we listen to the ways of the world by buying into the lies
purported by entertainment, godless people, and news we will slowly accept the attitudes
slipping into society one by one and our world will crumble.
For decades the
church refused to get involved in social issues and we see the result now. A
victorious church will stand against sin and show the sinner how to be saved.
One reason this
has happened is because there is a risk to getting involved.
Another reason
is that we have the attitude of “What difference can one person make?”
Well, one
person, Madelyn Murray O’Hair, was the influence behind prayer and Bible
reading being taken out of schools.
One person
filed a lawsuit that resulted in legalized abortion in Roe v. Wade.
And one person
listened to God and followed the call to preach the gospel and became the greatest
evangelist we have ever known. His name was Billy Graham.
We are all one
person individually, but if we take our stand against wrongs in a righteous
way, we can make a difference in our society.
God's grace is greater than all our sin. |
The question we
must ask ourselves is, “Am I willing to risk what taking a stand against evil
will cost?”
When we stand
against a sin of this nature, we are labeled as hate mongers. But showing
people a way out of their sin is an act of love. To hate would be to allow
people to remain in darkness and die and go to hell. You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you may most certainly
rebuke your neighbor, but shall not incur sin because of him (Leviticus
19:17 AMP).
The church is
the light of the world and the darker the world grows the brighter God’s light
shines. But where sin increased, [God’s
remarkable, gracious gift of] grace [His unmerited favor] has surpassed it and
increased all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, so also grace would
reign through righteousness which brings eternal life through Jesus Christ our
Lord (Romans 5:20-21 AMP).
He took the sin
of every homosexual and pedophile who has ever lived or ever will live and gave
His life to save them. He gave to save us all.
His grace is
greater than all our sin!
