You Can't Kill a Peep

When I was a child, Easter was a big deal full of excitement. It was almost like Christmas. We got new clothes, a basket full of candy and toys, and enjoyed Easter egg hunts.

All the girls wore patent leather shoes, dresses full of stiff petticoats, and we carried spring purses. White-gloved hands clutched new Bibles that had been part of the basket bounty.

And what about those Peeps? They appear out of nowhere every year then disappear back into hiding until the next Easter season. I think merchants just store them in the back room from year to year and bring them out again in the spring. Mold won’t grow on them, they won’t melt, and I don’t even think bugs like them. You can’t kill a Peep!

No More Consciousness of Sin

Blood has been an issue since the fall of man in the garden.

The first blood shed was when God had to kill animals to make coverings for Adam and Eve. He wrapped them in bloody fur and as they looked at the blood covering their own skin, they were reminded of the consequence of what they did. They became conscious of sin.

Without shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22).

When God instituted the priesthood, He gave instructions for the way Israel was to offer sacrifices for their sin.

Why Do We Still Seek the Living Among the Dead?

Resurrection Day. Or some call it Easter. The day the women in Jerusalem found an empty tomb where the body of Jesus was placed by Joseph of Arimathea.

Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, He is risen! (Luke 24:5).

Angels told the women why the tomb was empty.

Jesus had predicted his resurrection on many occasions, but the reality of what His disciples and the citizens of Jerusalem had seen outweighed His words (Matthew 16:21, Matthew 17:22-23).

They only saw the natural. Mockers yelled. Torture inflicted. Blood flowed. A body died.

His mother cried.

His disciples ran.

One of them betrayed.

Another one denied.

Now at the tomb, the women who loved and served Him heard the message that reiterated the Savior’s words of resurrection. “Why do you seek the living among the dead?”
